WA Updates DAFF Inspections - CPD - Depot Forum - Internship

Monday, April 8, 2024

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) have sent advice to Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) on how some small improvements to the booking request can assist in achieving best possible appointment times for your inspections. We have also taken this as an opportunity to remind members / industry of upcoming events and a request for internship placement.

DAFF Inspection Appointments
The SWMS system will use the criteria that is put into the booking to find the first available booking. This means the system will look for the first available which is restricted by 'To meet', AM, PIDs, an officer's skillset, an officer's restrictions, etc – so the more restrictions there are, the harder it is to get an early booking.

Imagine the system trying to work like 'Tetris' – looking for the right sized 'gap'.

In March 2024 DAFF identified the following for WA non-food bookings:

  • 13% of all requests restricted availability to AM only.
  • 1 % of all requests restricted availability to PM only.
  • 31% of all requests restricted availability to a specified 'To-Meet' time (these are client initiated requests – not ones the dept applies for prawns etc).
  • Only 42% of requests provided a full day of inspection availability – Next Available.
