Sod turned for DSV Air & Sea’s new port home

Thursday, April 11, 2024

It's all systems go on construction of DSV Air & Sea's new Fisherman Islands' home, with Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL) and DSV Air & Sea gathering this morning to turn the sod on for the global transport and logistics leader's new warehouse and container depot.

Quandamooka man, Norm Enoch, performed a Welcome to Country at the site, ahead of the sod turning by PBPL CEO Neil Stephens, DSV Air & Sea Managing Director, Paul Thomson, and McNab Construction Manager, Ryan Tunney.

An existing tenant of the Port, the move will enable DSV Air & Sea to bring its Brisbane-based road and sea freight service operations to a central location.

Together with Principal Contractor, McNab, PBPL will deliver a purpose-built facility on a 4.8ha site comprising a 16,008sqm warehouse, a two-storey operations office, and approximately 26,220sqm of container-rated hardstand as well as awnings, and truck manoeuvring and car parking areas.

With new PBPL developments targeting a 5-star equivalent sustainability rating, the facility will also incorporate a 100kW solar installation, low carbon concrete in external pavements, energy efficient LED light fittings, water efficient hydraulic fittings, rainwater tanks for greywater use, and use recycled materials in the civil construction.

PBPL CEO, Neil Stephens, congratulated all involved.

"We're delighted to be getting underway with construction of DSV Air & Sea's permanent home here at Fisherman Islands. We're not wasting any time and hoping to have them into their brand new warehouse and container depot by the end of the year," said Mr Stephens.

"For us, facilitating the Port's long-term, sustainable growth is both about attracting new customers and working with our existing customers to support their operations now and into the future.

"DSV Air & Sea's focus on servicing major renewable projects makes the Port of Brisbane – already a well-established and trusted partner for these projects – the perfect location to support their growth ambitions.

"As we always do, we've established a strong team of trusted partners to deliver this project for DSV Air & Sea, and we look forward to handing over the keys once complete."

Construction is anticipated to complete in late 2024, weather permitting.
