The European Union and Australia held a dialogue to strengthen ties on priority digital and technology issues.

The virtual meeting builds on our existing relationship and creates a framework to work together on our shared digital and technology priorities.
The meeting brought together experts from several Australian Government departments to share their knowledge on artificial intelligence (AI), data governance and online safety. These included the:
- Department of Industry, Science and Resources
- Department of Finance
- Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
- Department of Home Affairs
- Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts.
Ahead of the meeting, eSafety and the Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CNECT) signed an administrative arrangement. This will help exchange information on online safety and improve regulation of online platforms.
The meeting was co-chaired by:

- Thibaut Kleiner, Director, Policy Strategy and Outreach, DG CONNECT, European Commission.
Strengthening how we work together on digital and technology issues with the EU in the Indo-Pacific holds great promise. We look forward to working on online safety, sharing lessons on data governance and realising the benefits of AI together.
