Department of Home Affairs (DoHA) will take "real action" after an Australian Public Service Commission capability review, focusing on leadership, clear direction, and integrity.
DoHA's transformation agenda has three key pillars: leadership, a strong agenda, and collaboration.
Leadership development and a focus on collaboration are central to the plan. The review found varied capability levels across the department, emphasising the need for internal collaboration and better technology.
DoHA aims to improve staff outcomes through innovation and technology upgrades.
The transformation agenda highlights the importance of a future-ready workforce, strong governance, and leadership development.
DoHA is focused on transformational change, learning from the past and building a better future.
The review outlines three core areas for DoHA to focus on until 2028
- Protect Australia from national security and criminal threats, and support national resilience through effective national coordination, policy and strategy development, cyber resilience of public and private organisations, emergency management, and regional cooperation;
- Support a prosperous and united Australia through effective coordination and delivery of immigration and a multicultural and social cohesion agenda and using policy levers to achieve economic goals; and
Advance a prosperous and secure Australia through facilitation and modernisation of legitimate trade and travel, and effective customs, immigration (including visa programs and settlement), maritime and enforcement activities across the border continuum.
