Key points - Amendments include new and revised definitions (including clear days), as well as updates relating to
- livestock rejection, marking and isolation practices at the RE
- additional clear day requirement for sheep, if feed or water curfew is longer than 12 hours
- RE record keeping requirements.
- Updates to the RE guidelines for the export of livestock have been made to reflect these ASEL amendments and will be published shortly.
- The department has supported RE occupiers to ensure that operations manuals comply with the amended standards from 29 August 2024.
- The department may revoke an establishment's registration if the operations manual is not updated to comply with ASEL, or if operations at the RE are not carried out in accordance with ASEL.
Background - On 30 November 2023, an updated version (version 3.3) of ASEL was published. ASEL 3.3 introduced amendments with staggered commencement dates to allow for effective implementation.
- The department has previously issued export advisory notices EAN 2023-21 and EAN 2024-06 to advise stakeholders of implementation arrangements.
