BRETT CHARLTON JOINS THE FTA TEAM
Tasmanian Regional Manager
Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) are delighted to announce the appointment of Brett Charlton in a newly created role as Tasmanian Regional Representative - FTA / APSA
Many will have read over the years Brett's narrative on Tasmania and shipping related stories in FTA's publication of Across Borders.
Having worked in international logistics for over thirty years (predominately in Tasmania, but also in Papua New Guinea and Queensland), Brett has an extensive knowledge and background in most aspects of international logistics and trade.
Brett established his own freight forwarding business in Tasmania after moving back from Papua New Guinea and creating a successful consolidated container service for Tasmanian exporters and importers. The business was sold to Agility Logistics and later then on sold to DSV where he managed both entities until recently.
Brett has great pleasure in stating that he started the business in his garage with a new born child and a borrowed set of terms and conditions to eventually seeing the business evolve to have two offices, ten staff and provide services to a significant sector of the Tasmanian trading community and be eventually owned by the third largest freight company on the planet (reminding DSV often that the Queen of Denmark was born in Tasmania).
During his time working in the corporate sector, Brett also contributed to the success of the trading community in altruistic ways through his Chairmanship of the Tasmanian Logistics Committee, national board member of the Australia China Business Council and advisory panel member of the National Freight and Supply Chain Strategy as well as attending various international trade missions with the Tasmanian State Government.
Finding his dream location on the East Coast of Tasmania and taking long service leave to tend to his sixty-seven acres overlooking the Bay of Fires in Tasmania, Brett is emerging from his break to establish a shipping and logistics consulting firm called "The Ship – Consulting" (named after his property in Binalong Bay, Tasmania).
Brett will be working on selected consultancy projects that have outcomes for shippers or related industries that will benefit Tasmania (or other States). Brett remains committed to ensuring that the legacy created in his career is not impacted in his consultancy business and will not be taking on any commercial attraction roles that may impact the staff and business that he has recently handed to the new manager of DSV in Tasmania.
FTA and APSA are pleased that Brett will be our sole representative in Tasmania and join the FTA team as a specialist in Tasmanian matters as well as other areas of his expertise.
Extending on FTA and APSA's representation in Australia by having a Tasmanian representative expands our advocacy position and strengthens our commitment to the trading community of Australia.
We look forward to working with Brett to expand our membership base in Tasmania and work on projects and outcomes that ensure Australia's trading future through shipping and logistics is secured for the betterment of our connection to the world.
Brett commenced with FTA today (30 August 2024) and can be contacted at bcharlton@FTAlliance.com.au or mobile 0421174 680.
