Ports Australia - Inaugural State of Trade Report

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) would like to draw members' attention to a significant new report from Ports Australia.

The State of Trade report released today, 9 September 2024, provides an unprecedented look at the critical role that Australian ports play in supporting our nation's economy, workforce, and global trade.

Key highlights :

  • Australian ports are responsible for 99% of Australia's international trade, handling an impressive $650 billion worth of goods annually.
  • Nearly 700,000 jobs across the country are facilitated by port operations, contributing approximately $264 billion to the economy.
  • Ports handle 1.6 billion tonnes of trade volume and support 1.25 million cruise passengers annually.
  • Major industries such as mining, energy, construction, and tourism rely heavily on the efficient functioning of our ports, which are now revealed as a cornerstone of our economic and supply chain security.
