Port of Brisbane receives 5-star GRESB sustainability rating, fifth consecutive year

For the fifth consecutive year, Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL) has received a 5-star GRESB rating – a globally recognised assessment that evaluates ESG performance and sustainability 'best practices' for real estate and infrastructure funds, companies and assets worldwide.

Based on data for the FY23 financial year, PBPL's overall score was 96/100.

PBPL CEO, Neil Stephens, said the Port was proud to achieve a 5-star rating and recognition as a leader in the ports industry.

"We are striving to be a sustainability leader, and this assessment is a positive reflection of the significant actions we are taking and commitment to driving sustainability across our business and operations," said Mr Stephens.

"This is great recognition for the entire PBPL team who are deeply committed to pursuing new and innovative ways to deliver tangible outcomes for our business and the broader Port of Brisbane community.

"Sustainability is embedded in the way we do business at PBPL. We're continuing to make strong progress towards our 2030 sustainability goals and deliver on commitments made as part of our Sustainability Linked Loan. 

"Many of the exciting initiatives and projects undertaken over the last 12 months are in collaboration with our customers, partners and the community, and we thank them for their ongoing support. 

Key sustainability initiatives delivered/underway by PBPL in FY24 include:

  • Met commitments for year 1 of PBPL's Sustainability Linked Loan
  • Achieved Net Zero Emissions (scope 1 and 2) ahead of our 2030 goal
  • Achieved 95% customer satisfaction in our annual stakeholder survey
  • Commenced our first battery energy storage trial 
  • 22.5% of PBPL energy is generated by onsite renewables 
  • 53% of PBPL waste generated is recycled
  • Commenced construction of our first 6-Star Green Star property development
  • Achieved 'Advanced Workplace Recognition' from Mental Health First Aid Australia.
