Imported Food Notice (IFN) 07-24 advises stakeholders of the new food safety requirements proposed for imported dates, melons, enoki mushrooms, pufferfish and kava. Key points: - Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has published risk advice for imported dates, melons, enoki mushrooms and pufferfish. The advice has identified hazards which present a potential risk to public health.
- In response, we will classify these foods as 'risk foods' and are proposing new risk management measures for their import. This will provide assurance of their safety.
- Changes are also being proposed to existing requirements for kava.
- We are consulting on the proposed food safety measures. These are:
- food safety management certification of dates and melons
- analytical testing for enoki mushrooms
- foreign government certification of pufferfish
- inspection of kava from New Zealand.
- Your feedback will help inform the final risk management measures and implementation of the proposed changes.
