| Welcome to this month's edition of Port of Brisbane News.
It's been a busy month at the Port for our community partnership programs and event calendar.
We were delighted to host PBPL's 2024/25 Community Grant recipients for a morning tea in August and look forward to working with this year's Employee Charity, MND and Me Foundation, over the next 12 months.
Our 15th annual Safety 1 Forum was a great success, with over 200 people from the port community coming together. Thank you to our sponsors for your ongoing support and to all who attended.
We're continuing to work with our customers to support their innovation and operations, with a successful trial of Qube's double-stacked container vehicle at our Brisbane Multimodal Terminal earlier this month.
Finally, an important step has been taken in our Channel Enhancement Project.

Trade update Strong volumes of processed beef exports have continued during July and August, with cattle supply and overseas demand at elevated levels.
Shipments to most markets have increased over the last 12 months, with Japan and South Korea accounting for over 40% of the Port's total throughput. Demand from the USA increased by almost 100%, making it the third largest market for Port of Brisbane exporters.
The Port of Brisbane remains a key gateway for Australian processed beef, with approximately 50% of the country's shipments exported through Brisbane. |

Channel Enhancement Project We are pleased to announce the Queensland Coordinator-General has now declared our Channel Enhancement Project a 'Coordinated Project' under the State Development and Public Works Organisation Act, requiring an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). Details of the declaration can be found here.
The proposed 25-year project aims to ensure the shipping channel servicing the port improves efficiency, reduces vessel emissions, and caters for the future needs of the global shipping market.
The project will include the potential deepening and widening of existing navigational channels, as well as minor re-alignments.
You can learn more about the project on our website. |

Double-stacked container vehicle trialled at Brisbane Multimodal Terminal Over the last 18 months, we've worked with our customer Qube to support the successful trial and introduction of its "Super B Double Double-stack" – a double-stacked container vehicle capable of carrying 8TEU containers – that operates on a defined route within the Port.
Earlier this month, a trial was successfully conducted through our Brisbane Multimodal Terminal on Fisherman Islands; completed under stringent safety and operational conditions with teams from Qube, O'Phee, NHVR and PBPL in attendance.
The ability to call at the BMT will help to further improve efficiency and productivity for Qube's operations with the vehicle continuing to be operated under strict safety and operational conditions. |

Whyte Island Rehabilitation Project This year we commenced a multi-year project to rehabilitate a 10Ha area of degraded coastal land at Whyte Island, which forms part of our Sustainability Linked Loan commitments. The area incorporates important high tide roosting habitat for internationally protected migratory birds which visit there and other sites including our shorebird roost and Future Port Expansion area.
During the year we've been working with B4C to manage the rehabilitation works and fenced the area to protect its important ecological values. We've also engaged First Nations contractor, Tuff Yards, to assist with its ongoing management including weed control.
Our biodiversity assessment showed that this work has directly improved 5.7ha of the area over the last 12 months and indirectly protected an additional 15.6ha of tidal wetlands.

Big turn out for Safety 1 Forum In August we welcomed over 200 people from across the port to talk about and reflect on the theme, 'Safer Together' at our annual Safety 1 Forum.
Attendees had the opportunity to visit 11 trade stalls and hear from our keynote speakers, Rachel Robertson and Darius Boyd, on safety leadership and mental health. It was a fantastic turn-out from the port community.
As always, events like these are not possible without our sponsors. Thank you IOR, Patrick Terminals, Qube, Queensland Bulk Handling, Svitzer Australia, Blue Water Shipping, MEDLOG Transport & Logistics and ESR Group. |
