AUSTRADE Canberra catch up
Bianca Flint, Member Support - Trade Operations | FTA
had the opportunity last week to meet with
Mark Faulkner, the newly appointed ACT Assistant Director – Trade and Export and TradeStart Advisor at Austrade
. Austrade plays a pivotal role in helping businesses expand globally by providing support with market entry strategies, overcoming trade barriers, and accessing government assistance.
During their discussion, they addressed the significant challenges exporters are currently facing, including the rising costs of domestic transport, increasing port fees, issues with empty equipment availability, vessel reliance, and growing complexities in foreign markets.
FTA look forward to working with Austrade to bring more awareness to the challenges faced by our exporters in getting to market. Please feel free to reach out to
Bianca
if you would like to be put in contact with Austrade.

All parties in the logistics chain, including importers and exporters, have legal obligations to ensure the safe loading, cargo restraint, transport, and unloading of shipping containers, as well as accurate gross weight declarations.
While subcontracting may reduce your direct operational control over transport activities, it does not exempt you, particularly as an importer or exporter, from potential legal responsibility under Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations
.
You still have a duty of care to ensure that all parties involved in the transport process comply with safety standards, whether the transport is handled in-house or outsourced.
2025 Professional Placement & Internship Program
Further to our interview in
Across Borders edition 1, 2024

BORDER
Border Watch - UPDATE
Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) has received advice from the Australian Border Force (ABF) in relation to updates to the Border Watch program.
In response to a recent review, Border Watch will now be managed centrally which will result in changes to the way we connect. We appreciate your patience as we develop this new operating model.
The centralised management approach does mean that regional coordinator roles in each state no longer exist and that Border Watch regional mailboxes will no longer be monitored.
