Fremantle Ports' Maritime Day offers an exciting opportunity for the community to explore Perth's vibrant maritime industry. This family-friendly event showcases diverse employment, training, and educational opportunities while celebrating the rich maritime heritage of our region.


Maritime Day is proudly hosted by Fremantle Ports in partnership with the  Company of Master Mariners of Australia, along with strong support from our local port community.


What to expect:

  • Interactive displays and activities for all ages
  • Insights into careers in the maritime industry
  • Opportunities to meet industry professionals
  • Shuttle bus from E Shed to the Fremantle Passenger Terminal every 30 mins
  • A fun-filled day with learning and entertainment for the whole family!

MV Besant open to the public!

Fremantle Ports has revealed the major on-water attraction this weekend at Maritime Day will be the Royal Australian Navy's submarine intervention gear ship, MV Besant.


The bright orange, 83m Besant provides search and rescue support to Australia's submarine fleet and the ship will be open for the public to go aboard.


The Australian Navy are a huge part of Maritime Day. The Navy Band is a must-see, learn about careers, see the Clearance Dive Team display, the Stirling Health Centre first-aid displays and demonstrations, the gunnery department, the Fleet Support Unit West engineering display and more!

Harbour TOurs 

Jetwave Marine: harbour tours and chance to win an iPad!

Visitors to Maritime Day can tour Fremantle's Inner Harbour by boat and have a chance to win an iPad, courtesy of Jetwave Marine.

Fremantle pilots 

Virtual reality: Board a container ship 

Thank you to Fremantle Pilots for sponsoring Maritime Day's main stage.

 

Since 1844, marine pilots in Fremantle have stood as guardians of maritime safety, guiding vessels in and out of the port with precision and expertise. 

 

This Maritime Day Fremantle Pilots have an exciting program of events. Check out their stall for more information about:

St Pat's cruise-themed fashion parade

A highlight of Maritime Day is the St Pat's Vintage Fashion Parade on the main stage.

 

St Pat's Community Centre play an important role in our community providing support for people facing homelessness. Each year they provide over 26,000 meals, accommodation for more than 300 people and more than 7,500 shower and hygiene packs.

 

Fremantle Ports is proud of its long-term partnership with St Pat's and delighted the team will join us on Saturday, when it will be all fun as the team perform a cruise-inspired fashion parade sourced from the St Pat's op shops. 

 

Don't miss this laugh-a-minute event on the main stage at the Fremantle Passenger Terminal from 11am-11.30am

Classic rigged wooden yachts

Maritime heritage lovers will be drawn to The Association for Gaff Rig Sailing stand and outdoor exhibition at Maritime Day!


The Old Gaffers Association is excited to be showcasing three of their classic rigged wooden yachts in their outdoor display, as well an exhibition space inside the Passenger Terminal in partnership with the Amateur Boat Building Association and Maritime Heritage Association WA.

Protecting our borders

Australian Border Force operates across all 37,000 kilometres of Australia's coastline including major and regional airports and more than 60 international seaports. 

 

Each week they inspect 1.1 million mail items, clear 750,000 air passengers and 700 ships. On Maritime Day you can learn more about the work they do, career opportunities and (pending operational requirements) meet the dog unit!

Dress up and more: activities for the little port people!

Children love Maritime Day. It's a great chance to tour a vessel, dress up, undertake some maritime-themed arts and crafts and perhaps have your face painted!

 

We love dress ups too! The children's nautical fancy dress parade is 12.15-12.30pm on the main stage, so be sure to bring your little pirates/ mermaids/ sea captains! Prizes for all children.
