TasPorts' Manager Environment and Sustainability Susan McLeod has been nominated for the prestigious DCN Women in Shipping + Maritime Logistics Award for spearheading the initiative to secure EcoPorts certification for TasPorts' four major commercial ports.

TasPorts' Chief Executive Anthony Donald said Susan as the leader of the Environment and Sustainability team has demonstrated exemplary leadership and commitment to embedding sustainability practices at TasPorts.

"EcoPorts sets stringent standards for sustainability and improving environmental management across ports worldwide," he said.

"Susan's work has gone beyond the requirements of her role and she has successfully navigated the complexities of aligning TasPorts' environmental practices with the rigorous demands of EcoPorts and ISO 14001 certifications, which is a mark of distinction that fewer than 105 ports globally have achieved.

"Her efforts have positioned TasPorts as a benchmark for environmental excellence in maritime, demonstrating that environmental sustainability is not only achievable but also essential for long-term industry viability."

Mr Donald said a key feature of Susan's work is her approach to fostering collaboration and that she has brought international best practices to Tasmania, adapting them to local conditions while ensuring alignment with global standards.

"TasPorts is unique in that it operates a network of ports around Tasmania, in addition its ports (on a global scale) are fairly small. EcoPorts traditionally applies to large singular ports, and so for Susan to lead and adapt the framework across four geographically diverse ports in one organisation is nothing short of outstanding," he said.

"TasPorts has now become the one of the first port authorities to receive EcoPorts certification across multiple sites, setting a new standard for environmental performance and reducing environmental risk through improved controls.

"We wish Susan all the very best at the upcoming DCN Awards being held this Thursday in Melbourne."
