Purpose To inform stakeholders of the commencement of the property of origin for livestock exports policy. Key points - This policy provides clarity around the interpretation of the phrase 'property of origin' where this is not otherwise defined by an importing country.
- The policy was previously introduced in June 2024 via market access notice MAN 2024-04. A phase-in period provided for an educative approach to support exporter compliance with the requirements of the new policy.
- Exporters must comply with the requirements of this policy for all livestock consignments exported on or after 2 December 2024.
Background Through departmental consultation, industry bodies and state and territory authorities agreed that implementing a national, robust standard for property of origin strengthens Australia's export certification system. This provides assurance to importing countries and promotes continued market access for Australian livestock.
