Stay well clear of ships when you're boating

With summer well underway, it is a great time for recreational boat skippers, but with the volume of boats passing through the Fremantle Inner Harbour and port waters, skippers are reminded to exercise caution and stay well clear of all commercial vessels.

Ships visiting Fremantle often exceed 336m in length. This size means they can't stop or change course quickly and will cover a considerably long distance before they do stop.

Recreational skippers must always move with caution, keep a good look out and if possible, monitor radio channels (Emergency Channel 88 and VHF Channel 16). The recreational boat skippers are responsible for their personal safety and the safety of passengers in their boats.

Safety

Pedestrian safety on VQ

Supporting the safety of visitors to Victoria Quay during the school holidays, traffic management is in place to create a pedestrian-friendly environment for our ferry passengers.

Peter Hughes Drive is closed to traffic at O'Connor Landing until 1pm and ferry passengers diverted into the E Shed car park to unload and deliver their luggage.

We thank everyone for their patience during peak times and as always, Rottnest travellers are encouraged to arrive with plenty of time to park and unload before their departure.

Cruise

Cruising into Fremantle

Cruise continues to perform well with 27 cruise ships scheduled to berth at the Port of Fremantle this financial year.

Eight of these vessels will arrive to port on their maiden voyage, demonstrating a continuing strong interest in our port city from our cruising clientele.

Western Australia's growing cruise sector injects millions of dollars into the state's economy. Last financial year, Tourism WA measured the economic impact of cruising at $385 million.

Western Victoria Quay

New additions to the WA Museum forecourt

New seating and shade structures on Victoria Quay provide a perfect resting place as you wait for friends, watch the world go by or just seek a shady spot to sit.

Visitors will also notice new additions to Workshop Lane including potted trees, lighting and seating.

Curious kids will spot the Waagyl ground mural, which leads towards Bathers Beach. Look out for further additions to this interpretation of the Walyalup Dreaming Story, coming soon.
