Port of Brisbane's Port West Industrial Estate (stage 2) has achieved another significant milestone with the
Port's Embedded Energy Network in the estate going live.
A first for a Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL) industrial estate, the embedded network enables PBPL to
supply 100% renewable power to customers, either through onsite generation, storage or via a Power
Purchase Agreement (PPA).
The embedded network will initially be supported by a 1MW rooftop solar system, a 1MW/1.75MWh Battery
Energy Storage System (BESS) and a green Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Momentum Energy.
The roof of the new Electrolux Australia facility provides the site for the solar system.
PBPL CEO, Neil Stephens, said the embedded network represents a major opportunity for both the Port
and its customers.
"As industry continues to look for ways to decarbonise, the ability to access 100% renewable energy will be
of great benefit to our customers who have their own sustainability aspirations," said Mr Stephens.
"Stage 2 of our Port West Industrial Estate – as we deliver new facilities for our first tenants – provided the
perfect platform for us to identify opportunities for shared services that would help reduce resource use and
achieve cost efficiencies for PBPL and our customers.
"Within the estate, energy use – through solar power generation and battery storage – represents one of
the most significant opportunities to create shared value for our customers.
"This is a leading achievement, and I congratulate Port employees together with our contractors and
partners, for working through the development of this innovative approach to provide cheaper, reliable and
renewable energy supply.
"As the estate continues to grow, we look forward to exploring opportunities to expand onsite generation
and energy storage capacity further in the future."
In 2023/24, PBPL achieved net zero emissions (scope 1 and 2, with offsets). PBPL continues to
investigate opportunities to eliminate remaining scope 1 and 2 emissions from its operations, while
remaining focused on working with our customers to reduce our scope 3 emissions.
Port West Industrial Estate is a ~89ha site in Lytton, located around 6km from the Port of Brisbane's
terminals and wharves. Of this, Port West Stage 2 comprises approximately 26.8ha of developable
land, which is being brought online progressively to meet demand.
With Stage 1 of the estate fully developed, sites in Stage 2 are in strong demand with new facilities
being constructed for Electrolux Australia and Bridgestone Australia as well as a facility for existing
customer, Team Transport & Logistics.
