| | | | Welcome to the first edition of Port of Brisbane News for 2025.
It was a positive end to 2024, with record chickpea exports achieved through the Port during December and a strong start to 2025 as we marked the 2 millionth cruise passenger movement through the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal this month.
Our customers also achieved milestones in Brisbane with Svitzer delivering its first ever EcoTow low-carbon towage service for its shipping line customer, Höegh, and DP World Australia successfully trialling its first fully electric Internal Transfer Vehicle between its two Port of Brisbane facilities.
Finally, we're pleased to have our flagship vessel, the TSHD Brisbane, and crew back in Port to complete her annual summer campaign.

| | Trade update Over 300,000 tonnes of bulk chickpeas were exported during December, making it a record monthly total through the Port of Brisbane. India was the largest export market with some smaller consignments going to Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Chickpea tonnages have continued to remain strong throughout January. However, in line with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (ABARES) ABARES' broader industry expectations, exports are anticipated to reduce ahead of India's tariff-free period, scheduled to end on 31 March 2025. |

| | Svitzer's low-carbon towage service at the Port Congratulations to our customer Svitzer Australia on the recent success of delivering its first ever EcoTow solution – a low-carbon towage service – in Australia.
In partnership with Höegh Autoliners and using its EcoTow solution, Svitzer announced it had achieved a substantial reduction in CO2 emissions relating to its towage operations of the Höegh Aurora, itself one of the largest and most environmentally friendly car-carrier vessel classes in the world.
The Port of Brisbane was one of four Australian ports of call on her maiden voyage during December. |

| | DP World successfully trials ITV In December, our customer DP World successfully trialled an electric Internal Transfer Vehicle (ITV), travelling on a defined route on port roads between its Empty Container Park and Fisherman Islands terminal. The ITV will transport empty containers between the two facilities.
A first for DP World in Australia, the ITV is a key sustainability initiative aimed at reducing diesel consumption at its Brisbane operations, supporting its broader net zero ambitions.
The trial was attended by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator and PBPL as the Port's Road Manager. |

During her time here, our TSHD Brisbane crew, along with the Marine Operations and Hydrographic Surveying teams, will collaborate to complete the maintenance dredging of the Port's navigational channel. This work will remove excess sediment, ensuring safe and navigable depths for commercial shipping. All operations are conducted under strict permit conditions. |

| | Channel Enhancement Project The proposed 25-year Channel Enhancement Project aims to improve efficiency, reduce vessel emissions, and ensure the shipping channel servicing the port caters for the future needs of the global shipping market.
The Queensland Coordinator-General has now declared the project a 'coordinated project', requiring an environmental impact statement (EIS) and the draft terms of reference are currently being developed. When ready, the draft terms of reference will be released for public comment by the Coordinator-General, who will consider any comments on the draft prior to finalising.
Further information of the project is available on our website. |
