The updated Illegal Logging Prohibition Amendment Act 2024 (Amendment Act) and new Illegal Logging Prohibition Rules 2024 will come into effect on 3 March 2025. The meeting covered key updates on biosecurity operations, regulatory reforms, and industry engagement. Discussions included DAFF's strategic transformation, funding allocations, and efforts to improve service standards. Industry engagement focused on cargo operations, compliance schemes, and inspection delays, with an emphasis on streamlining processes. Updates were provided on cost recovery, funding transparency, and website improvements to enhance communication with stakeholders. FTA raised member concerns regarding virtual label inspections and new import pathways, prompting further discussions for the next meeting. - DAFF Future Drought Fund (FDF) - Innovation Challenges Pilot open for consultation:
The Future Drought Fund (FDF) has launched a consultation on the Innovation Challenges Pilot, a $20 million initiative running from 2025-26 to 2027-28 to drive innovative solutions for drought and climate resilience. FTA proudly represents the freight and trade sector on this vital committee. Following are the latest DCCC Meeting minutes, communiques and papers: Australian Fumigation Accreditation Scheme (AFAS): AFAS is a bilateral arrangement between DAFF and participating overseas government agencies. AFAS manages the high biosecurity risk posed by ineffective treatments performed offshore.
