Port of Brisbane TC Alfred update - Tuesday, 4 March 2025 1400hrs

Tuesday, March 4, 2025

Port Stakeholders

There has been no change to the port's operational posture overnight.

The shipping channel remains restricted for inbound vessels, under direction from Maritime Safety Queensland's (MSQ) Regional Harbour Master.

MSQ is working with cruise lines to ensure vessels can berth if necessary to keep passengers safe. The Pacific Encounter berthed at the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal this morning and will depart this afternoon. Other scheduled homeporter arrangements are under consideration.

As advised by the Bureau of Meteorology, intense rain and gale force winds are forecast over the coming days, particularly Thursday and Friday.

SAFETY REMINDER: it is important to again ensure all Port tenants and businesses carry out their own severe weather preparation processes, including tying down any equipment or plant, securing all cargoes and reducing container stacks where possible. All Port
tenants/businesses are advised to implement their own severe weather preparedness plans, adhere to State and Local Government/Emergency Management directions, and make decisions regarding their own operations.

SAFETY REMINDER: for any vehicle movements, please use extra caution over the days ahead. Drive to the conditions and reduce speed.

Situation:

  • Swell currently up to 2.3m at NM1.
  • Continued disruption to deep draft NCOS transits and pilot transfers.
  • TC Alfred currently heading in a SE direction and altering westwards from Tuesday afternoon with potential crossing in SE Qld late Thursday night/Friday Morning.
  • Gale winds expected in Moreton Bay from midday Wednesday.
  • Most likely no shipping movements from this afternoon after the Pacific Encounter departs.
  • Tug operations will cease from midday Wednesday and will remain on emergency standby until business operations resume.
