Wednesday, March 5, 2025

5 March 2025

Who does this notice affect?

All internal and external stakeholders who may require Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry regulatory services across southern Queensland and northern New South Wales.

What has changed?

The department is preparing for the forecasted severe weather event anticipated across southern Queensland and northern New South Wales coastal on Thursday 6and Friday 7 March 2025, associated with Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

Department resources conducting import and export inspection regulatory services across the impacted regions are being diverted to assist with reallocating inspection appointments to the next available date, and prioritising urgent biosecurity inspections including for perishable goods.

The department is in the process of contacting impacted clients and Approved Arrangement premises where bookings are required to be brought forward or reallocated.

Import document assessment activity will continue to be conducted.

The departments general enquiry line (1800 900 090) will operate as normal.

The department anticipates that its ability to meet client service standards for the inspection of non-urgent commodities may come under pressure once the weather situation stabilises and shipping/port operations resume.

The department will continue to actively monitor the weather event. If weather conditions permit, department resources will be deployed to undertake inspections, where safe to do so.
