DAFF - TC Cyclone Alfred - IIAN 65/2025 Regulatory Services Recovery Preparedness following TC Alfred

Friday, March 7, 2025

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) have received the following update from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) via import industry advice notice 65-2025 regarding regulatory services recovery efforts following Tropical Cyclone Alfred. This includes guidance for Approved Arrangement premises on reporting damage, potential disruptions to biosecurity inspections, and the department's approach to reallocating inspection appointments and prioritising urgent assessments.

Who does this notice affect?

All internal and external stakeholders who may require Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry regulatory services across southern Queensland and northern New South Wales.

What has changed?

As Tropical Cyclone Alfred continues towards the coast, communities across south-east Queensland and north-east New South Wales are already experiencing severe weather, including heavy rainfall and strong winds.

The department is preparing for the recovery efforts for regulatory services following Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

The department anticipates weather conditions may impact the integrity of stored goods held under biosecurity control and the ability to access some inspection locations.

How is the department responding?

Approved Arrangement premises are asked to notify the department if goods held under biosecurity control have sustained damage and /or if their facilities and infrastructure have been impacted by the weather event.

Where possible, please email notification to agriccc@aff.gov.au including "TC ALFRED IMPACT NOTICATION- [LOCATION]" in the subject field of the email.

Department resources conducting import and export inspection regulatory services across impacted regions will be diverted to assist with reallocating inspection appointments to the next available date, and prioritising urgent biosecurity inspections including for perishable goods.

The department will contact impacted clients and Approved Arrangement premises where bookings are required to be brought forward or reallocated.

The department will continue to actively monitor the weather event and provide further advice as things change. If weather conditions permit, department resources will be deployed to undertake inspections, where safe to do so.
