PORT MATTERS | AUTUMN 2025

Welcome to the Autumn edition of Port Matters,

In this issue, we are excited to announce the launch of our annual Community Grants Program, designed to support the communities where we work. Our ports are strongly linked to our communities and the new program gives us an opportunity to give back to important local initiatives.

The community grants will support projects that aim to strengthen community ties, promote sustainability and maritime activities, or improve the wellbeing of residents in the local port areas.

Applying for the grant is straightforward and eligible organisations within our six port communities have until 20 May 2025 to complete the application form on our website. We are looking forward to announcing the successful recipients in July.

In other news, demolition works began in March to pave the way for the installation of shore power at White Bay Cruise Terminal. This transformational project will allow cruise ships to connect to clean energy while at berth, reducing emissions and noise from ship engines.

Applications now open for port community grants program

Port Authority is calling for grassroots organisations in our six port communities including Sydney Harbour, Port Botany, Newcastle, Port Kembla, Yamba, and Eden to apply for its Community Grants program. Applications are set to close on 20 May 2025

Shore Power Update

Demolition work has commenced at White Bay to prepare for the installation of electrical equipment and shore power infrastructure. This is a critical milestone for the project that will support the future shore power connection at White Bay Cruise Terminal.

Port Authority unveils new website with enhanced features and accessibility

Port Authority has launched a new corporate website with a fresh design, improved navigation, and accessible mobile-friendly format. Take a look at the new design and use the short survey pop-up on the site to share your feedback.

Seagrass research at Foreshore Beach in Botany

Port Authority is a research partner in an Australian Research Council linkage grant project with University of NSW, the La Perouse Local Aboriginal Land Council and others. The project will help restore and future-proof the biocultural values of endangered seagrasses.

Port of Eden to welcome largest cruise ship ever with historic Ovation of the Seas visit

The Port of Eden welcomed one of the world's largest cruise ships with the Ovation of the Seas making its maiden arrival in Snug Cove, carrying a record-breaking 4,862 passengers to explore the sights and sounds of the Sapphire Coast.

Port of Eden Stakeholder Group

New members have held their first meeting of the Port of Eden Stakeholder Group. The collaborative initiative by Port Authority and Transport for NSW Maritime (TfNSW) provides an opportunity for members to discuss local port priorities and influence future plans at Snug Cove and the surrounding area.
