On behalf of Freight Trade Alliance (FTA) and Australia Peak Shippers Association (APSA), I would like to draw your attention to the following request for participation in a survey on behalf of my long-time colleague, Mr. Mike Brindley.
Mike Brindley and I served on the Tasmanian Freight Logistics Committee for many years and have worked together on many projects that have assisted in shaping aspects of the trade and logistics sector in Tasmania positively. Mike's passion for the sector has been unwavering and despite not coming from a freight or shipping background, his exposure to the industry ignited a passion that continues to this day.
Mike has furthered his passion for the industry by embarking on a PHD research thesis for the Australian logistics and shipping industry and I have had the pleasure of being updated on his progress over the years. Whilst I acknowledge that surveys can be time consuming and there are a number that potentially come to your email address regularly – I would be considerably grateful if you could highlight this survey to assist Mike in his thesis which will in time feed into an essential study for the shipping industry of Australia.
Further detail about the survey is available HERE and below is the foreword from Mike.
Again, thank you for the time to read and accept this communication and in anticipation of your participation.
Brett Charlton - Regional Representative, Tasmania
I am writing to request your support for a major research study focusing on The sustainable future of Australian coastal shipping. This research is conducted by the Centre for Maritime and Logistics Management, at the Australian Maritime College (AMC), University of Tasmania.

Your perspectives will offer considerable value and strengthen the understandings of coastal shipping for the purposes of this research. Your participation in this research is voluntary and while we ideally welcome your participation, we respect your choice to not take part.
The results from this study will be published in the form of a PhD thesis. It is also our intention to provide a summary of findings to participants and to write and publish scientific articles in academic journals, conferences, and in industry publications,
The research methodology for this study incorporates a data collection process using online surveys with valued participants. Selected participants for this study represent key stakeholders in coastal shipping including major port authorities, coastal carriers, freight forwarders, terminal operators, government regulators, regional development committees (RDA's), maritime industry associations. transport and logistics providers and producers and manufacturers.
It is anticipated this research and its findings will be of great interest to many stakeholders in Australian coastal shipping, understanding how government policy can influence positive change.
