Suqi Lim – Export Operations Co-Ordinator (DSV Tasmania)
Tasmania Focus – Freight Trade Alliance (FTA) / DSV / Australian Maritime College (AMC)
At forums and discussions in boardrooms, the topic of attracting people to the freight, logistics and shipping sector is often raised. Inevitably the phrase "how can we make our sector a career of choice" is muttered (usually with different words). There are ways. In Tasmania a long-standing relationship between the globally recognised centre of maritime excellence, the Australian Maritime College (AMC) and the world's largest logistics provider, DSV has proven to be a partnership that provides pathways for students into industry as well as a smart succession plan for successful operational excellence for DSV.
Suqi Lim came to Tasmania from Malaysia to complete her Bachelor of Business (Maritime and Logistics Management). During this time Suqi also won the annual DSV award for outstanding achievements in her studies at the AMC. Suqi started at DSV as an intern and during the covid period she returned to her studies to achieve her Honours. It is fair to say that Suqi fell in love with Tasmania and is now working full time at DSV as an export operations coordinator, managing the complex world of transport, logistics and shipping for some of Tasmania's iconic exporters.
The Freight and Trade Alliance (FTA) is represented in Tasmania by Brett Charlton. Recently FTA in conjunction with The Ship – Consulting, hosted the Tasmanian 2025 Freight and Logistics Forum in Hobart. A forum in Hobart mid-winter demands a special type of "giveaway" and all attendees received an FTA beanie as a memento. The photo in this post is of Suqi sporting the FTA beanie off the southern coast of Tasmania on a recent fishing charter. If there was ever an endorsement for the FTA and "beanies of choice" then this is it. Winter in the Southern Ocean is not for the fainthearted and FTA are honoured to have contributed to this adventure in an essential way (a warm head is essential in our books).
The Freight and Trade Alliance (FTA) is committed to its membership as well as the industry in Tasmania. We are extremely proud and passionate about the people in our industry and the businesses and institutions that support them. As much as automation and processes seem to be the focus of our industry, we can never forget it is the people that make it all work.
Congratulations Suqi, DSV and AMC for such an outstanding contribution to the trading community of Tasmania.
