| Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) have received a further update from Qantas Freight regarding the tragic incident that occurred on Sunday 7th September. The notice reads as follows: Qantas Freight is deeply saddened to confirm a serious incident occurred at the Sydney International Freight Terminal yesterday, in which a worker tragically lost their life. Our deepest condolences go to the individual's family, friends, and colleagues. We are working with the Sydney terminal team and authorities to provide support and ensure privacy is respected during this difficult time. Our Focus The immediate priority is the wellbeing of our people. Support services have been made available to all team members, and we continue to provide resources to those who need them. Operational Impacts and Customer Support The terminal remains open, though some service disruptions are expected. Our teams are focused on minimising impacts and maintaining service continuity. - The Sydney International Freight Terminal is currently experiencing backlogs for import cargo with potential for up to 48hr delay

Members have reported delays due to backlogs at the Sydney International Freight Terminal, with the potential for delays of up to 48 hours. Qantas senior management has confirmed, again, that these issues are being addressed as quickly as possible given the circumstances. We also want to acknowledge Qantas' decision to waive storage fees for import cargo from Monday, 8 September, through to midnight, Thursday, 11 September, which should provide some relief to impacted members.
