Welcome to the latest edition of Port Matters,

I'm proud to share Our Direction 2025–2030 including our updated vision and purpose for Port Authority. Our Direction was shaped through extensive conversations with our people and stakeholders, and highlights our focus on the pillars of Service, Community, and Sustainability.

In this edition, we're also shining a light on the importance of collaboration across our ports and communities, from operational forums and emergency preparedness to community grants and seafarer wellbeing.

We begin with the recent Safe and Efficient Port Operations Forum, where more than 170 maritime leaders from 70 organisations came together to tackle the operational realities of a sector that keeps our economy thriving and our ports connected to the world.

In Newcastle, we partnered with leading emergency response agencies and port operators to reinforce the region's preparedness for swift and effective maritime incident response. Meanwhile, in Eden, we reaffirmed our commitment to regional cruise development by extending our Memorandum of Understanding with Bega Valley Shire Council and Eden Tourism, strengthening collaboration and future growth in the area.

We proudly announced the recipients of our 2025 Community Grants Program, supporting local projects that demonstrate meaningful community impact and commitment to environmental sustainability. Finally, we mark the second year of the Seafarer Welfare Fund, a vital initiative dedicated to supporting the health and wellbeing of visiting maritime workers.

Port Authority Unveils Our Direction 2025–2030

Our Direction outlines our renewed purpose, values, and vision, along with the strategic pillars that will guide Port Authority over the next five years. It sets a clear and confident path forward, shaping our priorities as we continue keep the port of NSW safe, efficient and open to the world.

Safety, Performance, Sustainability at Centre of State's Port Forum

The 2025 Safe and Efficient Port Operations Forum (SEPOF) brought together over 170 leaders from across the maritime sector, representing 70 organisations, including shipping lines, terminal operators, regulators, and key government and industry bodies.

Port Authority strengthens regional tourism with renewed commitment to Eden

Port Authority of NSW has renewed its commitment to supporting regional cruise growth in the Bega Valley Shire through an extended Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bega Valley Shire Council and Eden Tourism.

Emergency exercise to spark united response in Newcastle

Port Authority of NSW undertakes major multi-agency training exercise, involving a simulated vessel fire and pollution incident within the Newcastle port precinct. The annual exercise brings together key emergency response agencies and port operators.

Bays Port update

Port Authority is in the process of installing and supplying Shore Power to White Bay Cruise Terminal, which will be powered by renewable energy. In parallel we have undertaken early community consultation for a proposed car park at White Bay. Stay informed about projects by visiting our online engagement platform.

Port Authority recognised for leadership in sustainability

Port Authority of NSW has strengthened its sustainability credentials with multiple recognitions, becoming the first Australian port to be certified by leading maritime environmental program, Green Marine, and by achieving Silver Partner status in the NSW Government's Sustainability Advantage program.

Community projects win big in Port Authority grant round

Nine inspiring community groups from across the State's port precincts have received a welcome funding boost through Port Authority's 2025 Community Grants Program. The grants provide vital funding to grassroots organisations delivering projects that strengthen community connections, promote sustainability, and support wellbeing.

Celebrating seafarers on International Day of the Seafarer

Many of Port Authority's team have lived and worked at sea, and their experiences bring valuable insight to our operations. To honour this year's Day of the Seafarer, we spoke with four staff members whose time at sea continues to shape the work they do today.

Seafarer Welfare Fund marks strong second year

The second round of Seafarer Welfare Fund recipients was announced at the annual Mission to Seafarers Parliamentary Lunch, continuing vital investment for frontline organisations that support visiting maritime workers in New South Wales.
