Customs catches five methamphetamine couriers in just over a week

Customs has arrested five drug couriers in relation to three separate methamphetamine seizures at Auckland International Airport in just over a week.

A total of 51 kilograms of methamphetamine was seized, worth approximately NZ$15.2 million.

Recent intercepts included:

- 19 kg of methamphetamine seized from two suitcases on 10 November
- nearly 2 kg of methamphetamine found in a 'book' on 9 November
- nearly 30 kg of methamphetamine located in two suitcases on 2 November.

Our latest Time Release Study is available

The time it takes for goods to be released at air and seaports is important for New Zealand's trade and economy.
 
Customs has published its latest Time Release Study which assessed performance in clearing goods arriving by sea and air. It measured the times of various events and procedures from arrival to release to market, reaffirming that Customs has good processes and systems in place to facilitate trade. If goods are reported to Customs correctly, they are cleared in just seconds.

New EPA reporting and notification requirements coming in 2026

Starting in 2026, all importers and manufacturers of hazardous substances will be required to provide the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) with business and substance approval information. Additional annual reporting will be also required from importers and manufacturers of certain hazardous substances.

The new requirements take effect from 1 January 2026. EPA will have an online portal available to enable you to provide this information and reporting.
