TasPorts releases FY2026 mid-year trade report

Monday, February 16, 2026

TasPorts is pleased to report solid year-to-date (YTD) trade performance for the first half of FY2026 with a total volume of 7.43M tonnes. This increase of 2.1 per cent above 2025 results is largely the result of strong forestry exports buffering a December shortfall in the industrial sector.

"This solid trade result demonstrates the critical role our ports play in ensuring Tasmanians have access to the things they want and need, as well as connecting primary producers with international markets", noted Phil Hoggett, TasPorts Group Executive Commercial, Trade and Transition.

YTD highlights

Total forestry volumes (2.07M tonnes) were strong, ? 13.3%
Industrial volumes (1.50Mtonnes) were ? 13.4%
Fuel volumes (428k tonnes) were ? 6.4 %
Mining volumes (247k tonnes) were ? 0.7%
Containerised freight numbers were ? 3.8% to 314,507 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU)
Total ship visits were ? slightly to 1,192 (versus 1,211)
The cruise season commenced well, with 35 ships calling across three Tasmanian ports between October and December, compared to 39 at the same time last year.
Container volumes also showed healthy growth, with December recording 52,814 twenty-foot equivalent tonnes (TEU), a 3.4 per cent improvement on the same period last year. Year-to-date container volumes reached 314,507 TEU, up 3.8 per cent, driven largely by increased services through Bell Bay.

Tasmania's cruise season also got off to a healthy start during the quarter, with 35 ships calling across three Tasmanian ports. Disney Wonder opened the season with a call to Hobart on 21 October, and Aurora Expeditions' newest vessel, Douglas Mawson, commenced its maiden voyage with a December call to Hobart. Six scheduled cruise calls were cancelled due to adverse weather conditions, though cruise activity is forecast to increase markedly during the peak January-February period.
