Wednesday, February 18, 2026

18 February 2026

Who does this notice affect?

Biosecurity fumigation stakeholders, including overseas government and industry treatment providers (both in Australia and pre-border), shipping, freight, and logistics companies, peak industry bodies and technology developers.

What has changed?

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (the department) has published the report summarising feedback received through the Have Your Say survey on The future of biosecurity fumigation technology discussion paper.

Summary of findings

The survey was undertaken as part of early exploratory work on potential future regulatory requirements for monitoring biosecurity fumigations. The survey highlighted broad recognition across industry of the potential value of new fumigation monitoring technologies, particularly in supporting operational efficiency, regulatory compliance and supply chain transparency. Respondents also identified the initial cost of investment as a key consideration.

What this means

This report does not introduce any new regulatory requirements.

The findings from the survey will inform the department's early thinking on potential policy options and support future engagement as we commence broader consultation with stakeholders in 2026.
