VALE Clifford John Dunkley

Monday, March 16, 2026

Freight & Trade Alliance received advice over the weekend that John Dunkley passed away peacefully on 25 February after a protracted battle with Cancer.

John worked in the Department of Customs and Excise for over 12 years, after which he started a consulting and customs agency business in Sydney with Trevor Wallin and Neville Merrill.

John and Margaret Milne formed C J Dunkley Pty Ltd and Dunkley International in 1972, building a successful business until he retired from Milne Dunkley Pty Ltd in 2000.

John was a true gentleman with a passion for helping anyone in need.  He actively embraced change and innovation in his almost 30 years in private industry.  His energy and enthusiasm were an inspiration to so many, as was his ability and willingness to pass on his advice, extensive knowledge and expertise.

He will be remembered for his professionalism and his passion for our industry and was highly regarded in the tariff consulting areas, AAT, etc of our industry.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Irene, two daughters Amanda & Allison and a son Shaun as well as his friends, colleagues from his work as a civil servant and those who worked with him in private enterprise.

May he rest in peace.

In lieu of a funeral service, a celebration of John's life will be held in due course, the details of this will be passed onto members when they are received.
