Prohibited Imports and Exports Amendments United Nations Security Council Sanctions

Thursday, March 26, 2026

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) advises that the Australian Border Force has issued Australian Customs Notice (ACN) 2026/09, outlining amendments to import and export prohibitions relating to United Nations Security Council (UNSC) sanctions.

The changes, effective from 26 March 2026, introduce, repeal and amend a range of prohibitions under the Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations 1956 and Customs (Prohibited Exports) Regulations 1958.

The amendments are intended to better align Australia's sanctions framework with current United Nations settings and modernise the supporting legislation.

These updates include new prohibitions on certain imports and exports, the removal of others, and amendments to existing measures (including changes relating to Iran), noting that in some cases the scope of controlled goods remains unchanged but has been relocated to updated legislative instruments.
