The Brown Marmorated Stink Bug: Keeping Australia Free of BMSB

23 July 2026  2:00pm AEST

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) is pleased to share details of an upcoming webinar supporting the Biosecurity Business Pledge Australia — a collaborative initiative between the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) and Biosecurity Tasmania.

The Biosecurity Business Pledge Australia is designed to strengthen Australia's biosecurity by supporting businesses to proactively prevent the entry and spread of pests, weeds and diseases. By taking the pledge, businesses can embed practical biosecurity measures into day-to-day operations, helping to reduce risk, protect business continuity and build resilience across the supply chain.

Participation in the pledge is free and provides access to guidance and resources to support effective biosecurity risk management. Importantly, it also allows businesses to demonstrate a visible commitment to biosecurity to customers, suppliers and other stakeholders.

As part of this initiative, members are invited to attend a webinar titled The brown marmorated stink bug: keeping Australia free of BMSB to be held on Thursday, 23 July from 2:00pm to 2:45pm AEST

The session will feature Caryn Scott, Director, Hitchhiker and Non-First Ports Cargo Policy Team at DAFF, and will provide key insights from the 2025-26 BMSB risk season.

Topics will include target and emerging risk countries, targeted goods, approved treatment options and frequently encountered operational scenarios. Drawing on observations from the season, Caryn will also highlight where BMSB risk and compliance issues most commonly arise, helping industry participants better understand areas of exposure across their supply chains and trade activities.

With the next BMSB risk season commencing in September, this webinar provides a timely opportunity for importers, customs brokers, freight forwarders and logistics providers to prepare for the season ahead and better understand current regulatory expectations.
