Australian Border Force (ABF) has published ACN 2026/21, advising of several tariff-related changes that took effect from 1 July 2026, together with the extension of Australia's temporary duty relief measures for qualifying goods originating from Ukraine.

The key changes include:

• Extension of duty-free treatment for Ukrainian goods – the temporary 'Free' rate of customs duty for eligible goods that are the produce or manufacture of Ukraine has been extended until 3 July 2028. The measure excludes fuel, petroleum, alcohol and tobacco products, which continue to attract the applicable customs duty.
   
• Restoration of UK preferential tariff rates – following the expiry of the United Kingdom's global steel safeguard measures on 30 June 2026, preferential duty rates under both the Australia–United Kingdom Free Trade Agreement (A-UKFTA) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) have been restored for the affected Chapter 72 and 73 steel products.
   
• New import statistical codes – updated statistical codes now apply to selected seafood (Chapter 3) and petroleum products (Chapter 27) for import declarations lodged from 1 July 2026.

The ACN also outlines the Integrated Cargo System (ICS) reporting requirements for claiming the Ukrainian duty concession and confirms that the Customs Tariff Working Pages and Online Tariff have been updated to reflect these changes.
