| Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) has received advice from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) of via Import Industry Advice Notice 118-2026 of changes to the management of in-transit consignments treated by certain Indian fumigation providers under the Australian Fumigation Accreditation Scheme (AFAS). DAFF has advised that thirteen (13) offshore treatment providers in India have either been suspended or withdrawn from AFAS following the identification of critical non-compliance or notification from providers of their intention to withdraw during compliance verification activities. According to DAFF, these changes are necessary to manage the biosecurity risks associated with consignments treated by the affected providers and will impact certain in-transit consignments subject to khapra beetle treatment requirements, including high-risk plant products and sea containers. These arrangements include onshore treatment, inspection and, in some circumstances, submission of treatment plans for departmental approval. Given the complexity of the requirements and the differing treatment pathways, members are strongly encouraged to review the full details contained in Import Industry Advice Notice 118-2026 to determine the arrangements applicable to their consignments. |
