Who does this notice affect?

Stakeholders involved in the imported new vehicle supply chain to Australia, including vehicle manufacturers, importers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, biosecurity industry participants, approved arrangement operators, shipping lines, and first points of entry.

What has changed?

The department invites you to provide feedback on the draft Imported new vehicle policy via our Have Your Say platform. Public consultation is open from 3 August 2026 and closes 31 August 2026.

The proposed policy aims to:

• Clearly define roles and responsibilities across the new vehicle import pathway.
• Set expectations for vehicle cleanliness and provide guidance on meeting biosecurity import conditions.
• Recognise manufacturers and supply chains that reduce contamination risks through reduced regulatory intervention.
• Support fair and sustainable funding for biosecurity services through improved cost recovery arrangements.
