Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Clarification of reasonable assistance during imported goods inspections. Import Industry Advice Notice 149-2026 Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) has received advice that the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) has provided clarification on industry obligations to provide reasonable assistance during imported goods inspections. The guidance reinforces the responsibilities of approved arrangement (AA) operators, customs brokers and importers to support biosecurity inspection activities, including the presentation, handling and repacking of goods where required. Daff has advised that the clarification is intended to support nationally consistent inspection practices and improve operational efficiency across inspection locations. Members involved in the importation and inspection of goods should review the notice and consider any impacts on current inspection processes, resourcing and operational arrangements. The examples provided in the table below illustrate activities that may constitute reasonable assistance.
