Tickets to fly from Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) to Nadi, Fiji, will go on sale today, with Fiji Airways the latest international airline to join Sydney's new 24-hour global gateway.
From March next year, Fiji Airways will operate three weekly flights between Western Sydney and Fiji, giving Sydneysiders another direct connection with the top holiday destination.
WSI CEO Simon Hickey said he was excited to partner with Fiji Airways, strengthening Sydney's ties with a beloved pacific neighbour and giving Western Sydney's vibrant, multicultural communities more choice and flexibility on when, where and how they choose to fly.
"More than 70 per cent of our global city's growing Fijian population call Western Sydney home and we're delighted to be delivering a new, seamless service for them to connect with family and friends," he said.
"Meanwhile, last year alone, more than 400,000 passengers travelled between New South Wales and Fiji, demonstrating the immense popularity of the warm, welcoming leisure destination and the more than 300 islands visitors can explore.
"The Fiji Airways services taking off from March next year will depart Western Sydney International at 11.55pm and arrive at Nadi just before 5am – meaning business travellers can make valuable productivity gains, while holiday makers can make the most of long weekend opportunities and swift connections for boat and ferry services to kick off their getaways."
The Fiji Airways services from WSI will comprise:
- Three weekly services between WSI and Nadi – every Monday, Friday and Sunday
- The first service will operate on Friday, 19 March 2027
- The services will operate on Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, offering up to 170 seats (including 162 economy seats and eight business class seats)
Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King said: "Fiji is a top 10 international travel destination, so it's exciting that there will be another travel option for Aussies, from Western Sydney's new global gateway to the world."
"Bula Fiji Airways, it's so good to have you boarding soon at Western Sydney International."
Fiji Airways MD CEO, Paul Scurrah, said: "This new route is a natural next step for us, and a chance to bring our award-winning service and the warmth Fiji is known for to one of the fastest-growing regions in the country.
"Western Sydney is also home to a significant Fijian and Pacific Islander community, so for us this is about more than tourism, it's about making it easier for our own people to stay connected to family and home.
"We look forward to welcoming even more Australians onboard the world's happiest airline."
