Who does this notice affect? 

??This notice affects importers of fresh, whole pomelo fruit for human consumption from Vietnam, brokers and Pathway Operations Cargo – Assessments ? 

What has changed? 

The Director of Biosecurity has suspended imports of the following goods for a period of six months effective from 00:00:01 hours (Australia eastern daylight savings time) on 15 September 2026. 

Affected commodities: 

  1. Fresh, whole pomelo fruit, grown and produced in Vietnam 

Effective 15 September 2026, imports of fresh, whole pomelo fruit will no longer be permitted. Import permits granted under section 179 of the Biosecurity Act, are taken to have been suspended for the period specified in the determination. 

Consignments that are in transit will be managed on arrival in Australia through verification inspection. Where necessary, remedial action will be applied in accordance with biosecurity requirements. 

For clients that have submitted and paid for import permit applications that have not yet been granted; 

  1. You may request a refund or remission of cost-recovered charges, by completing the application form on the department's website and  
  2. You should provide any information or supporting evidence that you consider relevant to your application.  

Once the completed application is received, the department will assess the request and the delegate will make a decision.
