We have commenced a review of biosecurity import requirements for fresh aehobak (Korean summer squash) for human consumption from the Republic of Korea.
We expect to release the draft report for public consultation in the second half of 2027.
We are commencing this risk analysis in response to a market access request for fresh aehobak from Korea.
A preliminary assessment of the pests associated with aehobak from Korea has identified that the potential pests of biosecurity concern are the same, or of the same pest groups as those we have previously assessed on horticultural goods, and for which risk management measures exist. These pests include fruit flies, spider mites, thrips, and pathogens.
As a result, the risk analysis for aehobak from Korea is being progressed as a review of biosecurity import requirements. This is consistent with the Biosecurity Act 2015 and the Biosecurity Import Risk Analysis Guidelines 2026.

We expect to release a draft report for public consultation in the second half of 2027. We will issue another Biosecurity Advice to invite comment at that time. We will consider all stakeholder comments received during the consultation period in preparing the final report.
