Qantas Freight Advises of Planned Protected Industrial Action - BREAKING NEWS - Update 1

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) and the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) has been advised by Qantas Freight of planned protected industrial action involving some Qantas Ground Services (QGS) and Australian Air Express (AAE) employees at selected Australian airports. The notified industrial action is currently scheduled to occur during the following periods: Brisbane: 4:00am AEST Thursday 24 September to 3:59am AEST Friday 25 September Sydney: 7:30am AEST Thursday 24 September to 7:29am AEST Friday 25 September Adelaide: 5:00am ACST Thursday 24 September to 4:59am ACST Friday 25 September Perth: 7:30am AWST Thursday 24 September to 7:29am AWST Friday 25 September At this stage, no industrial action is scheduled in Melbourne, although Qantas Freight has advised that it is continuing to monitor developments and will communicate any changes. Potential Impact on Air Freight Operations Qantas Freight has advised that contingency plans have been implemented to minimise disruption and maintain service continuity. Priority will be given to the movement of critical freight and time-sensitive consignments. While freight terminals are expected to remain operational, members should anticipate the possibility of: Delays in freight processing and handling; Extended terminal turnaround times; Capacity constraints on some services; and Potential impacts to urgent or time-critical shipments. Existing bookings will continue to be managed under Qantas Freight's contingency arrangements. Advice to Members Members with urgent air freight requirements are encouraged to engage directly with their Qantas Freight representative to discuss available options and contingency arrangements. Additional time should be allowed for freight processing at affected locations during the notified period. FTA / APSA will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates should additional information become available.
