Red Sea and Industrial Action

Over the last few weeks, it is the Red Sea hostilities that is particularly capturing the media's attention - while making ongoing commentary on this, FTA / APSA has been the predominant voice for the international trade sector drawing attention to domestic supply chain issues and the need for reliable and controlled cost trade gateways at Australian stevedore operations.

MANDATORY CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD) MODULE

The Australian Border Force (ABF) have advised under the updated Australian Customs Notice No. 2023/23 that the mandatory CPD module is now available for completion.

ALL licensed customs brokers must complete this mandatory module by 31 March 2024

The Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) is the designated peak shipper body granted status by the Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport under Part X of the Consumer & Competition Act to represent the interests of Australian shippers generally in relation to liner cargo shipping services. AIRFREIGHT

Passengers and businesses get more more options to/from Perth


It has been a busy start to the year at Perth Airport with 2 airlines announcing the return of flights into Perth. South African Airways (operating an A340-300 aircraft) will be returning to Perth with its direct Johannesburg - Perth service from April 28 and Thai Airways International is returning to Perth as of 31 March using a B787-8 series aircraft.

AIr Cargo demand up 8.3% in November

In a recent media release, IATA advised that Global demand for air cargo, measured in cargo tonne-kilometres (CTKs), increased by 8.3% compared to November 2022. For international operations, demand growth was 8.1%. Closer to home Asia-Pacific airlines saw their air cargo volumes increase by 13.8% in November 2023 compared to the same month in 2022. This performance was significantly above the previous month's growth of 7.6%. READ MORE

The Department has advised the return of the Cargo Operations Snapshot. Members will see a few changes one of which is the addition of a section on Cargo Compliance. When viewing the report we suggest members note the Data Definitions on page 3.
