IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING LODGEMENTS FROM 10 OCT 2021 TO 22 OCT 2021 Qantas are changing their lodgement times at T1 and there may be delays during this period across their Melbourne operation. MORE MEDIA COVERAGE - SHIPPING COSTS AND PORT CONGESTION |
|
Following our coverage last week on The Business, SKY NEWS (start 31 min 35 sec / end 38 min 20 sec) and ABC COUNTRY HOUR (start 21 min 43 sec / 28 min), FTA/APSA continues to maintain a high public profile on the shipping crisis .
Paul Zalai was privileged to speak with Geoff Hutchison (ABC Perth) on the afternoon 'Drive' show (start 1.38.25 / finish 1.46.30) – a tremendous opportunity to again highlight the record high freight rates being paid by Australian importers and exporters and our advocacy for a review of shipping and associated competition law.
Continuing our mainstream media - this time in collaboration with Ash Salardini (National Farmers Federation) and FTA/APSA members Emily Jackman (Kenter Intl Logistics) / Roger Fletcher (Fletcher Intl Exports) - thanks to the important ongoing coverage by David Claughton (ABC Rural) Exporters, farmers fear market loss as COVID-19 drives sea freight costs sky high |

FLINDERS ACHIEVE AN ENTERPRISE AGREEMENT |
|
Flinders Port's Adelaide Container Terminal (FACT) is pleased to advise they have a fully endorsed Enterprise Agreement with their terminal workforce.
This agreement allows them to provide certainty of service to all vessels calling Adelaide, and currently have no delays or congestion issues.
With the terminal being supported by a full range of supply chain / logistics ancillary services, customers can be assured their cargoes will be discharged / loaded without delay and in turn importers and exporters can be assured their products are getting to markets on time.
For more info please contact Trent Kolbig 0419 306 559 or visit HERE |

MIS-USE OF MARKET POWER & EXCLUSIVE DEALINGS FTA/APSA representatives again met last week with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCCC) with a focus on Sections 46 and 47 of the Competition and Consumer Act. While there is no issue with shipping lines and stevedores expanding from traditional core business and offering vertical integration services (domestic transport, customs / biosecurity clearances, intermodal facilities), the spotlight is now on their operations to ensure there is no mis-use of market power or exclusive dealing activities.
To report suspicious behavior, please refer to options below or for further information, please contact Tony Vinson (Head of International Freight & Logistics - FTA/APSA) on avinson@FTAlliance.com.au or 0420 589 534 |
|
REPORTING SUSPICIOUS BEHAVOIUR TO THE ACCC As outlined in our report into the official investigation into international containerised shipping practices, the ACCC has requested feedback on suspicious behaviour that may indicate anti-competitive behaviour. Reports can be provided to the ACCC, including anonymously if preferred, via https://www.accc.gov.au/contact-us/contact-the-acccFTA and APSA members of any size can use the 'small business' contact point, selecting the option corresponding on number of employees. The ACCC find that larger businesses often write rather than use their website contact form. FTA and APSA are assured that all contacts are centrally reviewed by the ACCC regardless of how they are made. On the ACCC website form there is a tick box for if the party wishes to remain anonymous, however to assist with the ACCC assessment of the issue, it is preferred if members could still provide a name (even if only a first name) and note what type of party is making the complaint – eg. freight forwarder, importer/exporter etc. Obviously if members choose to remain anonymous, it can make it difficult for the ACCC if they need to seek further information to make an assessment of the alleged conduct or to respond to members enquiries. |
